Irada - Movie Review

Cast - Arshad Warsi, Naseeruddin Shah, Divya Dutta

Directed By - Aparnaa Singh

Irada is a detective crime film directed by Aparnaa Singh and stars Arshad Warsi and Naseeruddin Shah in the lead role. The film is set in Bhatinda and tells the story of the pollution and chemicals that are spread in water and which in turn causes cancer to the people. It also focuses on the impurity of blood which is also mixed with chemicals and sold in the market. A social commentary on today's status of pollution and its adverse effects, this is a thrilling film to watch and one of the underrated film of 2017 which passed under the radar unnoticed.

The film tells the sad story of the corruption and environmental pollution through the eyes of its main protagonists who suffer, discover and realise the adverse affect this pollution is creating in this city and how people are all being wrapped around it. Featuring some stunning performances from the cast and also the supporting cast, Irada makes up for a thrilling investigative film that will at times shock you and blow you away from the facts and visuals it serves you. Some of the best scenes in the film involves the interaction between Arshad Warsi and Naseeruddin Shah, they really give you goosebumps with there performance when they are together in a scene. They hit all the right notes and one can only admire with awe as to how original and believable they converse with each other and make you believe its all real. Its sad that a film so nice didn't perform well at the box office maybe because of less promotion or due to the absence of a big star. But I do think it is an underrated film and must be watched if you are tired from all the mainstream cinema and also if you want to see something real and important that really matters.

Coming to the performances, everyone has done a fine job here. Arshad is seriously an underrated actor who delivers an amazing performance on screen. I really felt a kind of relief when Arshad was present in a scene as he lighted up every frame with his dialogue and superb performance. Naseeruddin Shah as someone who has lost his daughter due to cancer is just very believable and terrific. He portrays his pain through his eyes and melts the viewers heart so much that you actually feel sad for him. Rumana Molla as Naseer's daughter Riya who suffers from the cancer portrays her pain and angriness nicely and gives a good performance. Divya Dutta as the CM Ramadeep Braitch is very cunning and enjoyable to watch. Sharad Kelkar as Paddy who is the main villain behind all the evil doings is also good but doesn't have enough screen time to display all his acting skills.

Coming to the issues, I think the film started very slowly, but it soon picked up pace once Arshad's character is introduced, from here the film is quite consistent. Also the second half felt a bit stretched and a sharp editing could have really made it much better. Some characters have so little screen time that you almost forget they are in the film and are reminded about them when they come again during there scene.

Overall, I think this film must be watched at least once for the issues and the warnings that it gives to us. Also the performances from the cast will keep you invested in the film. Watch this film for the truth and message it wants to deliver to its audience.
