Lady Bird - Movie Review

Cast - Saoirse Ronan, Laurie Metcalf, Tracy Letts, Beanie Feldstein, Lucas Hedges

Directed By - Greta Gerwig

Lady Bird is a 2017 teen comedy film directed by Greta Gerwig and follows the story of Christine (Saoirse Ronan) who insists everytime that she must be called as "Lady Bird". It is a coming-of-age film and shows the journey of Lady Bird from Sacramento to New York but mainly focuses on the mother-daughter relationship that exists between them.

Greta has very maturely directed a teen film hitting all the right notes. Anyone who sees this film can relate himself/herself from the characters in the film, they are real characters with real problems and they handle situation realistically. Almost everyone who has issues with there mother or family can relate to Lady Bird's character. She is a small town big dreams girl and wants to go to the city as she is fascinated by all the rich friends she has around her and wants to live a high society life but due to her family's financial problems, she contends herself by seeing all the big houses in her neighborhood and imagines herself living there. In between following her dreams of making it big, she encounters a turbulent relationship with her mother and the way it is shown in the film is so authentic and heart touching. The climax left me a bit teary-eyed. The film shows that how much parents love their children and all the decisions they make are for there children's own good. They don't make certain decisions because they hate you, they really care for you but that is something you at that time don't realize. You are so invested in the film and the life of these characters that you don't want the film to end. All credit must go to Greta and Saoirse for giving us this beautifully directed and acted film. The runtime to is almost 1 hour and 30 minutes but as I said, I didn't want it to end.

But it's not only Saoirse but Laurie Metcalf too as Marion McPherson who is Christine's mother is amazing. She really portrays the pain and love of a mother beautifully. Beanie Feldstein as Julie Steffans who is Christine's best friend is a character who faces a situation which everyone might have faced in there life with there best friends. Odeya Rush as Jenna Walton is that good looking girl in the high school who everyone admires and dreams of becoming like her. Tracy Letts as Larry McPherson plays as Christine's father who hides his problems with her daughter, which is something every father does with there children and encourages her to achieve her dreams.

Lady Bird is nominated for the Best Picture at the Oscars and there is no doubt that it really is a film worth watching if you get a chance. From my side, there are no issues in the film and it is my second favorite Oscar nominee film after "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri".
