Jhoota Hi Sahi Movie Review - A Helpful Lie
Sid (John Abraham) runs a bookstore named "Kagaz Ke Phool" with his friends and is living a normal life with his dominating girlfriend Krutika (Manasi Scott). One day because his number gets misprinted on a suicidal helpline flier, he receives a phone call from Mishka (Pakhi Tyrewala) who is about to commit suicide. He stops her and becomes her trustworthy friend and there develops a trusting bond between Sid and Mishka.
Cast - John Abraham, Pakhi Tyrewala, Manasi Scott, Raghu Ram

Genre - Romance, Comedy
You all must have remembered a famous dialogue of Shah Rukh Khan from one of his film in which he says that "Hum Ek Baar jeete hai, Ek Baar Marte hai Aur Pyaar Bhi Ek hi baar Hota Hai" (We live only once, we die only once and we fall in love only once). Much of the plot of Jhoota Hi Sahi relies on this line as there are dialogues referring to live life to its fullest or "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara". On paper, the concept of a romance developing between the two lead characters through an unknown phone call is quite exciting and fascinating. The thing that matters is how well this concept is executed in the movie, and I can say that Abbas Tyrewala manages to keep you invested in the story, and its characters by sprinkling some humour here and there and the credit can also be given to John Abraham for his fantastic performance in the movie. I like when a romantic story about a boy and a girl is told in a non-cliched way, and Jhoota Hi Sahi has that non-cliched story of setting up the romantic track between its two lead characters. Some symbolism like the well-lit room of Sid who is attending the call of Misha who is in a dark room because she is depressed is thrown in the film. Also, the board outside the window of Sid's house which has the words "One Life" written on it tells about the major theme of the film. One of my favourite scene in the movie has this person who calls Sid and tells him that he is committing suicide and Sid tells him not to do it, and he agrees with him instantly, it shows that sometimes a simple no to a person with suicidal tendency is enough to make him stop from committing the act.
As much as I enjoyed watching this movie, there are certain issues with the film like the popping up of songs which does take away the connectivity from the film. Also, the exciting concept in the movie was stretched for too long, and after a while, it felt a bit dragged.
John Abraham is a fantastic actor. As an innocent and kind-hearted Sid, he nails his character and performs with ease. Pakhi as the debut actress does a decent job, but overall stays in her comfort zone and doesn't entirely open up or give a memorable performance, but she was okay. The other characters in the film are likeable but don't have anything much to do, but they do add up to all the charisma in the movie.
Jhoota Hi Sahi is a good film with an interesting concept and is worth a one time watch. You won't regret watching the movie, and some of you may even love it. Give this "liar" a try.
