Isn't It Romantic Movie Review - Romance Recycled
An unconscious girl wakes up in a romantic world where she has to find true love in order to go back to reality.

Isn't It Romantic is one of those movies that are described as an "Old Wine in a New Bottle". It is about a chubby and cute Natalie (Rebel Wilson) who has watched so many rom-coms since her childhood that she now hates them. She has come to realise that the movies are bullshit and far away from reality. With low self-esteem and a lack of confidence, she has now come to believe that no one in his right mind would ever fall in love with her. Even when her best friend and colleague Josh (Adam DeVine) who has a crush on her looks at her way, she assumes that he might be taking a look at the billboard with a photo of a model (Priyanka Chopra).
One day at the station she gets mugged by a man and while fighting with him bangs her head at a wall. She wakes up to find herself trapped in a rom-com film from which she could only escape by going through the cliches. The film is PG-13 so her swears are beeped and sex is censored. Even when she tries to get laid, the scene cuts to her waking up in the morning which goes on a loop whenever she tries again.
Much of this film works because of its likeable cast especially Rebel Wilson. The filmmakers go deep in with all the cheesiness, cliches and over the top musical numbers. Wilson and DeVine had good chemistry while Chopra and Hemsworth as a sex symbol were fine.
While it may come across with good intentions and a good time, it cannot be denied that it feels like something that is done as to pass the time or made when got bored. Studios green light such films when they have a lot of money to spend but don't have anything to spend on. They want to be in business. But again, Isn't It Romantic is not made to start a revolution or sweep the awards. At best, it tries to communicate a message which is to love yourself no matter how you look physically. It is forgettable but enjoyable.
