So, Justice League has finally arrived at the theatres and DC fans are all pumped up to see the latest superhero film which is the fifth installment in the DCEU. Now that we have both Marvel's Thor:Ragnarok and DCEU's Justice League, the fans of both can argue which one is better. While Thor:Ragnarok was successful in delivering entertainment, let's take a look at this new DCEU film in this review.
So, Justice League has Batman (Ben Affleck) who joins together a team of superheroes which includes Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Flash (Ezra Miller), Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) to fight with a new supervillian who is Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds). He is in search of three mother boxes that will fuel him with immense power and help him take over the Earth. Now it's upto our superheroes to stop him and as usual they are successful.
Now the run time of this movie is 2 hours so that is a good thing and a bad thing. The good thing is it's short duration and no strechy scenes. The bad things are that due to it's shorter run time, the movie feels rushed. Sometimes a scene comes and goes and then next scene comes and there is no connection between the scenes. For a movie that introduces some new characters whose backstories we have not yet seen, there is no immediate connection with them and there introduction is also rushed probably to accompany it in the 2 hour duration. Also Cyborg here is not fully utilised and that is a pity because he helps the league at a greater extent. Another problem is Steppenwolf who by far is the least scariest and powerful villian you will see on screen. He is not much frightening and doesn't help in creating any type of tense environment.
The movie is entertaining and light hearted which helps us to enjoy it throughout it's runtime. The visual effects are appealing thanks to Fabian Wagner's cinematography. Some action sequences like the one where the Amazonian's and Steppenwolf go neck to neck are stunning and pump the adrenaline.
The cast has done a wonderful job to potray there characters on screen. Batman played by Ben Affleck has matured and now tries to "play along" with the team. Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman is charming and stunning delivering some good action scenes. Ezra Miller as Flash is a comic relief here. He delivers some rib tickling dialogues that will make you laugh. Jason Momoa and Ray Fisher as Aquaman and Cyborg respectively play there parts well.
Director Zack Snyder has tried to include humour in this superhero flick which is a departure from his usual dark potrayal he showed in his previous movies. Due to some family issues Snyder had to leave the movie and Joss Whedon was hired on board to complete the writing and do reshoots. The movie didn't feel like it was made by two people as it was consistent.
All in all we can agree that Justice League is better than the previous movies in the DC Extended Universe. With some nice stunning visuals, new characters and power packed action this can be easily enjoyed in the theaters.
