Mukti Bhawan is directed by Shubhashish Bhutiani and stars Adil Hussain and Lalit Behl as Rajiv and Daya respectively who play as father and son in this film. Due to persistent complaints from his father Daya, Rajiv decides to take him to Varanasi as Daya keeps on getting this dream where his mother is calling him and he is continuously running which he intercepts as his death. So, Rajiv though reluctant decides to take his father Daya to Mukti Bhawan in Varanasi for his salvation. What follows is a beautiful tale of love, family bonding and a heart touching story that will make your eyes misty.
The film is very careful in it's approach. It doesn't try to be too dramatic or unrealistic. The "galis" and Ganges of Varanasi are beautifully shot and it really makes the city of Varanasi look like it's a character in the movie and not just a place. There is a particular scene in the film where Rajiv and Daya are sitting near the bank of Ganga and Rajiv asks his father why he thinks his time has come and in what form would he like to be born again. This scene is very, very beautifully shown with the right amount of emotions displayed by these two characters making it so heart warming that it puts a smile on your face and also makes your eyes teary. Maybe last time Varanasi was this beautifully captured on big screen was in the 2013 film Raanjhana.
All the actors have done fantastically superb job. Not even one character is wasted here. Everybody does there job professionally emoting just the required expressions needed for the film. It's not like this is just Adil's or Lalit's film, this is everyone's hardwork combined together to deliver us a masterful film about life, passion and dreams.
If you are tired of these no brainer bollywood masala films, do check in at this "Mukti Bhawan" for an emotional and heart warming experience. In fact this a movie that everyone should watch atleast once. Don't skip this gem.
