The House Next Door is a 2017 horror film directed by Milind Rau starring Siddharth and Andrea in the lead role. It was released in Tamil, Hindi and Telegu. The film tells the story about this house which is opposite to that of Krish's (Siddharth) and Lakshmi's (Andrea) house which is haunted by ghosts and then one day Jenny (Anisha) gets possessed by the ghost and now it's upto Krish, Dr. Prasad (Suresh), Father Joshua (Prakash Belawadi) and Psychic (Avinash Raghudevan) to save her.
The film may remind you of many famous Hollywood horror movies but on the whole it's a fresh horror movie introduced in our Indian cinema. It has many well executed horror scenes and some cliché jump scares to keep you engaged throughout its runtime. Some scenes are those which are frequently seen in many horror film's like the one which is very cool but always ends up as a dream sequence. Shreyaas Krishna's cinematography beautifully captures the mountains and the surroundings to give us an eye pleasing and eerie sensation. The story is fine and told systematically. The idea of communicating with spirits through sand art was quite imaginative and well crafted. The suspense and the twists it holds are quite gripping.
The problem with the film is that it's characters are under developed. Also in a horror film, the audience should be exposed to a sense of anxiety and tension which is missing in this movie. You do not feel for the characters or there problems rather you just sit there waiting for the plot to move on.
Overall, The House Next Door is a decent horror film released in India with some good plot and some fine horror sequences. It's a step towards producing many good horror films which are quite rare in our industry.
