Requiem for a Dream - Movie Review

Requiem for a Dream was released in 2000 and is directed by Darren Aronofsky and stars Jared Leto as Harry Goldfarb and Marlon Wayans as Tyrone. Harry and Tyrone are best friends and drug addicts who require a constant dosage of drugs for there survival as it becomes a part of there life. Harry has a girlfriend named Marion (Jennifer Connelly) who also is a drug addict like her boyfriend. Sara Goldfarb (Ellen Burstyn) is Harry's mother who one fine day gets excited as she receives a call which tells her that she is going to be on TV. The film tells the life of these four characters and all about there dreams and failures.
The film has some disturbing images that can be hard to look at and they won't leave your brain for a long time. The last 10 or 15 minutes of this film will just blow you away, you will witness some disturbing and sad scenes that will haunt you for a very long time. It is a beautifully made film telling about the drugs and dreams that every person has. In her excitement to be on the television, Sara starts taking this diet pills so that she could get thin and wear the red dress that her husband loved. Harry, Tyrone, and Marion too are consumed by all the drugs and basically, Harry sells drugs to make enough money so that they can start the clothing design business Marion wants. This is a film that tells how every person wants to be loved and be given importance to among his friends or other peoples. It explores the loneliness that comes with the old age and how just a ray of light that points towards there dream can drive the person crazy in order to achieve it. Darren opens a door for his characters giving them there dreams and happiness and then shuts it. The film shows that how a person can cross all limits in order to achieve his dreams but it all comes at a cost and you may not always achieve them. This is a very nice and a sad film at the same time. One of the most riveting scene in the film is when Harry comes to meet his mother and informs her that he is doing well and has bought a TV set for her as a gift. That scene is one of the best scenes I had watched in a film. It pours out all the pain and loneliness that is present in these two characters.
Kudos to its cast for delivering an amazing performance. Jared Leto is wonderful as a drug addict, he loves his mom but wants to make it big before and hence does not spend enough time with her. Jennifer Connelly is beautiful and stunning to watch. She looks and acts amazingly. Marlon Wayans as Jared's partner in crime also beautifully portrays all the pain and emotions of his character. But it is Ellen Burstyn who really moves you with her performance. She is the highlight of the film and she leaves you open-mouthed with her amazing performance.
The characters in Requiem for a Dream had a dream to fulfill and in its pursuit, they go beyond all levels of insanity. Featuring some uneasy scenes, this film will give you nightmares and it will surely make you think about it for a long time.
