Veronica movie review - Summoning gone wrong
Amidst much hype and rave reviews from critics, Veronica is a good horror film with some intelligent camera work and a good leading lady but it is surely not that scary.

Type Veronica on Google and you get search results like "it's the greatest horror film" or "it's the scariest movie ever" and etc. So I decided to give Veronica a try as I love horror films and wanted to see exactly what is so scary about this film. I got the chance to see it on Netflix and I can say that I was not extremely scared but I found it enjoyable. Directed By Paco Plaza, the film is about Veronica who takes care of her three younger siblings and one fine day during the eclipse, she along with her two friends use the Ouija Board as Veronica wants to reach her dead father and from here on, her life takes a scary turn and all sorts of paranormal shit starts happening with her.
First of all, its not very scary as many critics are calling it but it is quite enjoyable. Some of the camera works in the film are new or at least I haven't seen it anywhere in a film especially the one where Veronica is walking forward and the people around her are walking in reverse. There are some intelligent horror sequences here that are good and commendable. I liked all the three little kids in the film, I think they did a wonderful job. I also liked Sandra Escacena and I haven't seen any of her work but she is a fine actor. Creating an eerie atmosphere in an isolated house or a jungle is quite easy when compared to doing the same thing inside a room in a flat with many people in your locality and director Paco Plaza successfully achieves in setting the atmosphere. Last time I think it was James Wan who did something like this in The Conjuring 2 where the family which is haunted by the ghost lived in a place with many people nearby there house. But of course, you cannot compare Veronica and The Conjuring 2 as they are both different in there treatment and storyline although they hail from the same genre. The film has the regular jump scares that are commonly present in horror films and they are not always scary. With a runtime of almost 1 hour and 44 minutes, the film doesn't drag or bore you anywhere which is superb. This is a film involving Ouija and I am glad it didn't turn out to be 2014's Ouija which was a complete disaster.
There is nothing more to say and I think you can give Veronica a try although don't expect it to be very scary as some critics have said but at least it is enjoyable and you will have a good time provided you keep your expectations low. It is a well directed and well-acted film and is surely a one time watch for the love of horror present inside you.
