A Quiet Place Movie Review - Where Silence is your only Hope
Directed by the very talented John Krasinski, A Quiet Place is about a family who is trapped in an apocalyptic kind of world which is ruled by some alien creatures who will slice you into tiny pieces if you dare to make a sound. If in your school you followed the teachers instruction of maintaining pin drop silence then congratulations, you have higher chances of surviving in this world.

First of all, hats off to this movie as it manages to pull off something that many films fail to do and that is keeping you hooked to it and that too with sparse dialogues present in it. Throughout the film, the characters talk to each other by using sign language, and for your understanding, there are subtitles displayed on the screen. A Quiet Place starts at the 89th day of the apocalypse, and we see the place in ruins and the characters shopping silently as any noise from there side can prove fatal for there life. As the film starts at a future date from the initial day of the destruction, it smartly gets away from some basic explanations like how and what caused this alien invasion? From where did the creatures come from? A similar concept of maintaining silence in the deadly situation was focused in the 2016 horror film "Don't Breathe" that was directed by Fede Alvarez. But A Quiet Place is very different from "Don't Breathe" in many ways but both of them have another thing in common, and that is keeping the audiences on the edge of there seat. This is that kind of horror film that restores your faith in the genre and gives you hope that good horror films are still made and exist in today's times. With its terrifying opening sequence, John Krasinski enlightens the audience about the dangers of making a loud noise and how you will be 100% dead if you don't follow this rule. While he successfully to a certain extent manages to keep the mouth of the audience shut in the theatres, there were few people's at my screening who were making slight noises and a person sitting beside me was continuously irritating me by talking to his friend asking stupid questions like - What will happen now? How is that possible? What are they doing? I wanted to throw him inside the screen so that the monster could feed on him. Anyways, I kept calm and watched the full film, and I don't think I would stop raving about it anytime soon. I enjoyed this film very much. Some scenes will put your heart in your mouth, and you will be so scared that you will freeze for a moment without making any noise. That is the kind of effect this film can do to you, and I loved it for this.
The film has its issues like the false jump scares that are sufficient enough to make your eyes roll. Also, the dumb choices that the characters always make in a horror film are present here. Also, somethings were set up to heighten the tension of the film, and they were not logically explained, the situation was just created to give you goosebumps and chills, and yes it manages to scare you to the core. But given the fact that this an excellent horror good film, some of this issues can be ignored as in the end, the film manages to scare you, and that is the main aim of any horror film, and this one succeeds with flying colours.
John Krasinski proves himself to be an capable director and an excellent actor. I hope he makes more good films like this in the future and I do want to see more of him both as an actor and director. Emily Blunt is a fantastic actress, and that is a thing everybody knows, she again gives one of her best performance to date. Also the little kids in the film act with such sincerity that you care and root for them. They are not wasted, and they act marvellously in the film.
In the end, A Quiet Place should be best watched quietly, and I hope you do not get any noisy companions in your theatre. If you love horror films like I do and want to see a scary and compelling horror film, then go the theatres and dive into this apocalyptic world and be stunned.
