It Comes At Night Movie Review - Fear the Unknown
In a post-apocalyptic world, the life of a family takes a dramatic turn when they allow another family to come and live with them. What happens next is a series of unexplained events which will leave you twisted and make your head scratch.

It Comes At Night was heavily marketed as a horror film, and that may be a reason why audience hated it so much. They expected a horror film with demons lurking in the dark and terrifying them in the finale, but they didn't get any of those things, and as a result, the audience got disappointed, and you may find very low audience score online. The same thing happened with two other horror movies that I truly loved which were The Babadook and The Witch. As much as I loved those two films, It Comes At Night has a tendency to generally confuse you the first time when you would watch it, but after my repeated viewings, I have come in terms with this movie, and I can almost confidently review it.
Now, this film is made with a lot of love which can be seen through the various camera angles and also the aspect ratio which changes during specific events. The performance by Joel Edgerton is phenomenal as he puts his soul in the performance and moves you with his acting skills. Generally, everyone has given a fantastic performance here, so there is no disappoint in regards to it. The film is beautifully captured through the camera lens and is delightful to witness. These are some of the things that are amazing in this film, but there are plenty of things here that would leave the general audience very disappointed. Hence, I would suggest you not to watch any trailers of this film as they are misleading so if you want to watch it, directly watch it without raising your expectations by watching all the trailers on the YouTube. There are plenty of things unexplained in this film and that too intentionally as the director wanted to give only that much amount of information to the audience as much the characters in the movie knew, and I respect his decision as he is trying to do something different with the film but it does not let you get that much involved in the movie. Many movies like It Comes At Night give limited information to the audience, but they have all the things hidden in them which you get on repeated viewings, but here nothing like that is present to analyse. On the face of it, this is a simple story about a family trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world and has nothing more profound present in it. The film comes from A24 studio whom I genuinely admire as they had given me one of my favourite horror film The Witch and that is another reason why I was so anticipated to watch It Comes At Night.
Try to watch this film without seeing any trailers, and you won't be disappointed. This is a very beautifully made film with lots of effort from both the actors and the director, and I would recommend you to watch this film. This film is divided between the critics and audience as the critics loved it and audience didn't, I come somewhere in between the two.
