Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Movie Review - Age of Extinction
Picking up three years after the events of Jurassic World, Fallen Kingdom shows the fate of Isla Nublar - the site of the Jurassic World theme park - in danger as there is a threat of a volcanic eruption on the island putting the fate of the dinosaurs in the hands of the death. It's up to Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) to rescue the dinosaurs before the lava melts them up.
Cast - Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rafe Spall, Justice Smith, Jeff Goldblum, Daniella Pineda
Directed By - J. A. Bayona
Genre - Sci-Fi, Adventure, Horror, Action
It's been three years in both the real and reel life since the events that took place in the 2015 Jurassic World. The park is destroyed, but the dinosaurs still inhabit Isla Nublar and continue to live there life until now we are told that the dinosaurs are facing a deadly threat as the island's volcano Mount Sibo is about to erupt. Claire Dearing runs a "Dinosaur Protection Group" along with Franklin, a former technician, and Zia, a paleo-veterinarian and she is contacted by Benjamin Lockwood (James Cromwell) to save the dinosaurs from the island of Isla Nublar. She meets Eli Mills (Rafe Spall) who is Lockwood's right-hand man who hires both Claire and Owen for rescuing the dinosaurs.
From its opening scene itself, the film tells you that it is going to have many intense, action-packed sequences that will rarely let you breathe and will put your hearts in the mouth. The scenes involving the dinosaurs are thrilling to watch and are the major highlights of the movie. The film uses the giant creatures to build the horror in the movie that sometimes increases to such a level that you may even scream during some sequences or clutch the hands of the person sitting next to you. The visual effects are top notch which adds up to the whole gush of enjoyment to the movie. The roars of the dinosaurs are loud enough to send the chills down your spine. Director J. A. Bayona uses the dinosaurs to there full potential in delivering some action-packed horror sequences that are best enjoyed on the big screen. There are some surprisingly dark moments in the film for which the film must be credited for as it could have easily come out as a fun movie but these dark moments make sure that the film doesn't lose its heart amidst all the roller coaster fun and excitement.
Chris Pratt easily slips from his Star-Lord character from the Guardians of the Galaxy to Owen in the Jurassic World. He convinces the audience seamlessly by swapping his role as required by the film. Bryce Dallas Howard as Owen's girlfriend delivers a wonderful performance again and I look forward to seeing more from her in the future. Daniella Pineda and Justice Smith as Zia and Franklin respectively are a delightful addition to the franchise who provide comic relief in the film. Rafe Spall as the villain failed to evoke the menace that is generally required from any bad guy in a movie. I thought Toby Jones did a better job of playing the bad guy and should have been cast as the main villain in the film. Isabella Sermon as Maisie, the granddaughter of Benjamin Lockwood, has some cool things to do in the movie and is like a surprise package here.
Although the scenes involving the Dinosaurs were terrific and electrifying, the same cannot be said for the scenes which had humans in it. The film loses all the thrill and tension whenever it shifts focus to the humans. There are plenty of plot holes in the movie, and if you stick to them, you will lose all the enjoyment that the film has to offer. You have to ignore the plot holes and treat it as a fun action movie to thoroughly enjoy it. Just go with the roar.
Nevertheless, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has plenty of insane action sequences in store for the audience and manages to keep you entertained throughout its runtime of 128 minutes. As an untitled sequel is already announced and is scheduled to arrive on June 11, 2021, it seems Dinosaurs are not going to get extinct anytime soon.
